Okay, so I am still looking for just the right vehicle to purchase. I find something that seems to be a good choice and a great price. Then I find out that it has been rolled or maybe it met a moose or it has been stolen. (Okay, so I haven’t ran into any stolen cars yet.)
Today had an interesting story of car hunting. I went to meet a very nice Russian lady, to look at her car. She was on her way to the Beauty Salon, so she said to meet her there.
“Okay, when will you be there?” I say.
“Don’t worry, I should be there at least two hours, so no need rush.”
Being a guy, I can’t imagine what in God’s glorious creation would take at least two hours to do to one head of hair…all I know is that she was getting her hair wrapped in aluminum foil. Now, I wish that I could say that I didn’t have any experience with such things, but I experienced some interesting hair things “back in the day.”
N-E-Way, so I go and take a look at this car. It appears to be too good to be true…I am still skeptical, but haven’t found out anything wrong…maybe this is the stolen one
As I am talking with the owner, who is looking quite interesting at this point of aluminum foil and thick paste being put into her hair, the hair beautician says, “Hey, you want to buy car. If you don’t like hers, look at mine next to it.”
AAHHhhhhh. Dasterdly undercut by your very own hair stylist. What was this poor Russian lady to do? She was being uncercut by the lady with the scissors and the key to her hair color. Oh what misery!
I was in a quandry. What should I do?
Well, I did the only thing that seemed right. I took the first car for a drive and talked with the owner about it. After the drive (which was quite nice) I talked to her and told her I would think about it and call her back. ….Then, I came home and called the hair lady a few hours later to see if she was serious.
I’m not sure what may come of all this. I hope I get a car out of the deal…But, if I am found face down with a pair of scissors in the back or ship to the nether regions of Russia, you know where to start looking for suspects….
Tonight I got to go to my first indoor driving range. I am not much of a golfer, but I love to whack the heck out of those little white balls
Okay, so I am feeling pretty cool because I even bought my own clubs…yeah, that’s right, I own two of my own golf clubs. I found some pretty sweet deals at the thrift store…yeah, that’s right. I bought my golf clubs at a thrift store. I mean what else is to be expected from a kid who grew up in a trailer park and doesn’t see a problem with using the kitchen table for storing meat grinders and engine parts.
Okay, so here I am with my very own clubs… I line up…oh, this is gonna be sweet! Eye on the ball, knees slightly bent, the perfect grip on the club…keeping my eye on the ball, I back swing aaaannnnnddddd……….You should have heard the air shredding as I brought sought to trounce on that little white devil with a 5 wood………I would have nailed that sucker for 300 yards if I hadn’t completely missed it. Yep, I missed it. Air nothing
So, I give a chuckle and line up for yet another perfect swing……and another complete miss…….this time, I torqued myself so bad that I thought I broke my wrist and still think I may have pulled a muscle on the left side of my back…..tomorrow’s gonna be a rough day getting out of bed.
Well, I let up a little and had a good time, though I found out that it is a major workout to try to hit a large bucket of balls in a 1/2 hour….you pay by the 1/2, so I was going to get my money’s worth. Next time, I think I might try working on a consistant hit………
Today was our first good snow of the year. There have been a few dustings that melted quickly, but that was not the case today. Today, we had about 5-6 inches of some of the sweetest snowball snow ever laid down.
During half time of one of the football games, Wes and Chris went out to play catch, but soon found snowballs were a better idea. Well, it didn’t take long before the girls were outside and then we last two joined in. What a great time. Nothing like a little snowball carnage to bring Team Yeti a little bit closer!
The snow was perfect for playing in, as it seemed so soft, yet was moist enough to not just blow away if you needed some cushioning. I thought that it would be fun to try out a sweet 007 move and dive while drilling my opponent. Maybe this will not come as a suprise, but I missed my opponent and my landing wasn’t quite as 007 as I thought. Instead, I landed and was assailed by one of my teammates (which caused some snow to end up where snow should never be) and our buddy decided that kicking me full of snow is what you should do when a man goes down. This was probably a scene more likely to be found in Tommy Boy than James Bond….
That is what it took for our team to travel over 2,500 miles around the state of Alaska. In all those miles, we didn’t even get close to the North, South or West borders of the state! And, I thought Montana was big
Our travels have taken us north, to Fairbanks and North Pole, where we got a small glimpse at the Northern Lights, some Caribou and Musk-ox, a couple of Giant Mountains (yeah, Mount McKinley was one of them) and Santa’s workshop where apparently Santa and the Elves were on a little vacation before the “Big Night.”Our travels also took us Southeast, to Juneau and Sitka. Here we were able to see a giant waterfall, Humpback Whales and a glacier. Not to mention that I was able to go sea kayaking (a life dream of mine) to that glacier and go into a cave so we could get under and inside 150 year old snow! We also got to spend some time at a Chapel near the Sea, which was a wonderful time to look at God’s beautiful creation, while also looking at the Cross and being reminded of God’s enormous love for us.
Okay, so that is what we got to do in our free time. To hear about the Good Stuff, you will have to just come back…
Well, that is the question that I am asking as I search around craigslist.com for a new car. Back in April, I broke off a love/hate relationship with a 92 Subaru Loyale (really it broke off with me). Since then, I have been seeking to see what God would do in providing for a car…not that He had to provide a car for me, but I believe He was asking me to trust Him with that provision.
Well, I didn’t see any possibility of getting said car for about 4 months. Then, something wonderful happened. My home church, in Glasgow, MT, decided to start a vehicle fund for me. They set out to raise $8000 for me to be able to purchase a vehicle that would last for a while, as God seems to have me driving all over the place for His work. I have to say that I was quite unsure if this fund would ever reach its goal. Well now, aren’t I one of little faith.
So, here I am. Two weeks ago, my Pastor emailed to let me know they had reached the mark. At first, I was cheering, as I was so excited at the prospect of getting a vehicle.
Shortly after, though, I was sitting on my bed and crying at the thought that the Creator of the Heavens…yeah, all of the universes we know of and those we have yet to “find”…the Creator of Earth and all that is in it had seen to provide a car for me. Yeah me, the one that spent a majority of my life claiming to know Him but only knowing of Him…the one that even knowing how much He has forgiven, still turned my back and denied His love…the one who needs a constant reminder of just how much God has really done for me. Even now, as I think about it, I ask, “Why me, Lord, why me?”
The answer has to somehow come back to this, “For MY (God’s) Glory!” I mean, seriously, it doesn’t make any sense to me, but according to His riches, His kindness, His goodness, His Love, etc. me getting a car from God brings Him glory. I guess it is a God thing…
Though I don’t understand everything about why God does what He does, I am glad that I get to be a part of what He does. I am blessed to be loved and accepted, as all that I am, by His sacrificial gift of Forgiveness. And in that, I get to experience the richness of His blessings.
…Oh if everyone could just see God as He really is…
